A glass bottle has a number of advantages over a plastic bottle:

  • the shelf life is longer in a glass bottle;
  • it has no effect on the product;
  • recycling of containers is possible;
  • sparkling wines, champagne is only bottled in glass bottles;
  • variety of shapes allows to emphasize the individuality of the bottle for each type of alcoholic beverages (vodka, wine, beer, brandy bottles, etc.).
  • The glass bottle has a more attractive appearance;
  • packaging tightness;
  • glass bottle can be issued with a company logo, company name or trademark, which reduces the likelihood of counterfeiting the drink;
  • it is possible to develop a completely new bottle design that will distinguish the product from competing products and make it stand out on the shelf.

\Our company is not engaged in the production of glassware,but is ready to provide you with a full range of branding services.\t\t\t\t\tFull analysis of the glassware market, full marketing research, development of unique bottle geometry, as well as services on brand design of packaging, logo, counter label, development of strategies for the output and promotion of your brand on the market – all this you can get by contacting the branding agency KOLORO.\For those who are looking for manufacturers or suppliers of glassware, our experts have compiled a list of manufacturers in Russia and Ukraine, which you can see at the end of the article.

The only major disadvantage of the glassbottle is its low strength.

Most of the glass bottles on the market are of the same type and can be divided into: wine bottles, vodka bottles, brandy bottles, beer bottles, champagne bottles (sparkling wine) and other bottles for liquor products. Each bottle has a distinctive design, which is already formed historically and to which consumers are accustomed. It is unlikely that vodka or beer will be poured into a champagne bottle, and vice versa.

In order for a product to stand out on the shelf with competing products standing side by side, great attention must be paid to the design of the product. A unique bottle shape, a beautiful bright label, colorful and favorably accentuating the bottle packaging will not only increase the recognition of the product, but will also encourage consumers to buy. The main profile of KOLORO company is design of alcoholic beveragesbottle design, label design, cap design for vodka, wine, champagne, vermouth. In addition, KOLORO makes molds for bottle production and selects the best option of glass bottle manufacturer.

Requirements for finished glass containers:

Glassware market research. glass bottles development, glass bottles production, glassware market research, glass bottle advantages, bottle shortages, beer bottles, vodka bottles, wine bottles, cognac bottles, champagne bottles, developmentbottle moldability (the surface is smooth without protrusions, wrinkles and serrations, side and bottom seams are smooth and practically imperceptible, the transition from the end of the neck to the inner cavity of the bottle is well rounded, no foreign materials, visible non-welding of glass, open bubbles, various contaminants are allowed in the product);

mechanical strength (as manufacturers are constantly striving to reduce the weight of the bottle, thus reducing the cost of production, special attention should be paid to the strength of the bottle. The bottle should not be too thin and should be able to withstand the internal pressure of the drink. Champagne bottles are particularly strong – they can withstand a pressure of about 5 atmospheres (which is almost 3 times more than the pressure in a car tire);

temperature resistance (bottles should be resistant to temperature fluctuations and consistent temperature changes);

chemical resistance of glass (glass of at least the third hydrolytic class is used for bottles).

Various glass-forming machines are used for the production of glass bottles. Themachines for the production of glass bottles must be highly productive, economical and respect the shape of the product to be produced.

Glass forming machines are of three types:

  • carousel (rotary);
  • sectional;
  • conveyor belts.

Carousel machines work on the principle of forming products by continuous rotary (or cyclic intermittent) rotation of tables around the central axis. In this case, the machines can be with one table, on which all operations are carried out, or with two tables, where on one table the product blank is formed, and on the other table the product is already formed. With the rotary method of production, it is possible to use one or two molds. The productivity of carousel rotary machines is not high –50 pieces per minute (if one mold is used) and 100-160 pieces per minute (if two molds are used).

Sectional machines consist of several sections that operate separately from each other. These machines are available with two, four, six or more sections. The sectional method of production allows you to produce more bottles (the productivity of such machines is higher than rotary machines). When using double molds, it is possible to achieve an increase in productivity by another 20-40%. Another advantage of sectional machines is that different molds can be used in different sections, thus allowing different types of products to be produced.

Conveyor machines are mainly used for the production of lightweight bottles. Conveyor-based production is the most efficient, producing more than 230 pieces of 0.5 liter bottles and almost 400 pieces of 0.2 liter bottles per minute.

Enterprises engaged in the production of glass containers produce glass bottles mainly by two methods: sectional and rotary. The sectional method allows the production of a larger number of bottles than the rotary method. However, rotary production is cheaper. These two criteria – the number of bottles required and the budget for production – are the main deciding factors when choosing a bottle production method.

Production of glass bottles. Technological scheme of glass container production

The production of a glass bottle goes through the following steps:

1.Preparation of raw materials.

2.Preparation of charge.

3.Glass boiling.

4.Shaping of the product.

5.Annealing of the product.

6.Quality Control.

7.Packaging of finished products.

At the first stage, raw materials are prepared for further processing. Raw materials for glass production are divided into basic and auxiliary. The main raw materials form the basis of glass mass. These are: quartz sand, soda, sodium sulfate, alumina, chalk, dolomite. Auxiliary raw materials are added during production to change the characteristics and quality of glass, to accelerate the processes of glassmaking and glass coloring. Auxiliary raw materials include selenium, cobalt and others.

Raw material from the warehouse is delivered to the compounding shop, where it is cleaned from unwanted impurities, crushed, dried, ground and sieved. Then the obtained mass is mixed with cleaned and crushed broken glass. The prepared raw material is fed into the consumption hopper.

At the second stage the charge is prepared(it is a dry mixture of all raw materials used for the production of glass mass). In order for the charge to be homogeneous all components are weighed in a certain ratio, mixed thoroughly and fed into the mixer. In order to prevent the charge from delaminating, it is moistened. The ready charge is fed to the production shop for glass pulping.

Step Three. Glass cooking – is a process of multi-stage transformation of charge into liquid glass mass. The charge is heated from below by molten glass and from above by flame radiation. Glass boiling is the most complex operation in the manufacture of glassware. The brewing takes place in continuous bath furnaces. Bath furnaces are a complex heat engineering unit in the form of pools of refractory materials. When the charge is heated, all materials are melted (temperature 1100-1150 ºC), with further temperature increase the most refractory materials are completely dissolved in the melt, and the glass mass is formed. In order to clarify the glass mass, the temperature is raised to 1500-1600ºC.

Glass Brewing Process. glass bottle development, glass bottle production, glass bottle market research, glass bottle advantages, glass bottle disadvantage, beer bottles, vodka bottles, wine bottles, cognac bottles, champagne bottles, development

In order for the glass of finished products to be colored or opaque, various dyes (cobalt compounds for blue color, chromium compounds for green color, manganese compounds for purple color, iron oxides for blue-green and brown color) and silencers (phosphorus, fluorine compounds, etc.) are added to it.

When the glass mass is ready, it is cooled down to the viscosity temperature and the glass mold blowing stage begins. During the blowing process, the bottle blank in the rough version (pellet, jar) is first obtained close to the shape of the finished product. After the throat is formed from the rough form, the pellet itself is blown out of the rough form and transferred to the finishing form of the molding machines, where the final formation of the finished product takes place.

After forming, the products are fed into direct-heating furnaces for additional heat treatment (annealing). A thin film is applied to the container before and after annealing, which significantly increases the strength and thermal resistance of the glass bottle.

The annealed products pass the stage of control of compliance with the established standards and specifications. The control checks the quality of glass, the presence of manufacturing defects, the accuracy of throat molding for hermetic packaging.

At the last stage, the sorted and deemed fit containers are packed into crates or boxes, then sent to the finished goods warehouse and from there to the customer.

In the production of glass bottles, various molds are used to form bottles of different shapes. KOLORO is engaged in the development of unique bottle shapes for alcoholic beverages, as well as the development and manufacture of molds for the production of various types of products.

Bottle molds are subjected to considerable wear and tear during continuous and long-term production. The most common type of wear is the appearance of sharp edges in the mold. The causes may be different: solidified glass left in the mold, strong impacts of the surfaces against each other, and improper assembly of the mold. Damage and deterioration of molds in most cases is caused by insufficient care of the molds themselves. Taking into account the high labor intensity of molds manufacturing, their high cost, it is necessary to maintain the molds in good condition. If damaged molds are used during production, the output can be finished products with various defects.

Bottle Defects:

  • sticking glass, glass threads inside the bottle;
  • chipping, through cuts, scuffing with chips;
  • sharp seams;
  • foreign inclusions, open blisters on the inner or outer surface;
  • sharply defined folds, wrinkles, double seams, waviness;
  • indelible dirt, etc.

Glass factories produce so-called “free sale” bottles, i.e. bottles with a standard shape. In order to start producing a unique bottle, you need to design it, make a mold and find a company that will fulfill and satisfy all your wishes to the best of its ability.
