3D printing is becomingmore and more popular. Previously, 3Dprinting was usedmainly to create aprototype of an object. That is, foradvertising and marketing purposes,industrial design.as well asmedical and cinematography. This technology was considered expensive and only available to large manufacturers.

In this article we will introduce you to one of the ways of 3D printing – 3D printing technology by layer-by-layer gluing.
\n\n\n
KOLORO company KOLORO has extensive experience in the field of 3D printing services, so our engineers, when creating different size and complexity of 3D-objects, are guaranteed to choose the most favorable method of3D-printing for the client.
\n\n\n
There are several of the most common 3D printing technologies available today:
\n\n\n
- \n\t
- Technology of laser sintering of powders;
- \n\t
- Layer-by-layer build-up method;
- \n\t
- Stereolithography.
- \n
\n\n\n
All of the above methods are very popular, but another method of 3D printing has been on the market for over five years – layer-by-layer gluing.
\n\n\n
Layer bonding
\n\n\n
\n
\n\n\n
Layer bonding technology is a 3D printing process based on the layer-by-layer bonding of laminated paper or polymer film.
\n\n\n
A prototype is cut out of a stack of sheets glued together by a 3D printer using a laser or other cutting tool. In this case, the model of the prototype being formed is on a movable magnetic platform, and the knife or cutting laser is fixed on the movable head of the 3D printer forming the prototype. As for the sheets glued together, the glue is applied to the entire surface of the sheet film, and a special substance – a special “anti-glue” – is applied in the places where the knife must pass. Application of anti-glue provides easy removal of excess material in the process of 3D printing and post-processing of the resulting prototype. Anti-glue is applied by the 3D printer itself with the help of special markers.

Solido 3D printer. Working principle
\n\n\n
\n
\n\n\n
Today, only one 3d printer uses the technology of layer-by-layer gluing – it is a 3d printer Solido. Its consumable material – a bobbin with a special film weighing seven kilograms, which is inserted into the printer. It is worth noting that the sheets for gluing are not stacked on the entire length of the working platform, but exactly as long as it requires the length of the three-dimensional model. The magnetic substrate of such a printer should be replaced after 5-10 printing cycles.
\n\n\n
There are two blades installed in the printer. The first one is responsible for cutting off the sheets, and the second one is a forming blade for the 3D model. It should be noted that the second blade should be changed from the calculation: one blade – for two or three reels.The size of the working area in this 3D printer – 160x210x135 mm, and the overall dimensions of the printer itself – 770x420x465 mm. The weight of the Solido 3D printer is 40 kg.

Advantages and disadvantages of layer-by-layer bonding
\n\n\n
\n
\n\n\n
Benefits:
\n\n\n
- \n\t
- The small size allows you to place the printer directly on your desktop;
- \n\t
- Low noise level;
- \n\t
- Absolutely harmless to humans;
- \n\t
- The prototypes created require minimal post-processing;
- \n\t
- Low cost of consumables;
- \n\t
- Possibility of color 3D printing.
- \n
\n\n\n
Among the negative qualities it is worth mentioning that quite a large amount of used film goes to waste – about 50%. This happens, for example, when .. However, this disadvantage is compensated for by the low cost of consumables for 3d printers. Also, the film consumption can be optimized through the correct location of several objects for 3D printing on the working platform at once.
\n\n\n

\n\n\n
In addition to high material consumption, one of the disadvantages of layer-by-layer printing is the small size of the built prototypes. But, for example, in the case of building up to a dozen small prototypes for a large-scale physical presentation of the designed packaging to the customer, this method of visualization is extremely interesting!

Scope of Solido 3D printer
\n\n\n
\n
\n\n\n
These 3D printers are quite widely used in the workplace:
\n\n\n
- \n\t
- educational institutions;
- \n\t
- of the design bureaus;
- \n\t
- design studios, etc.
- \n
\n\n\n
Due to the high accuracy of objects created on the basis of graphical 3D models using layer-by-layer fusion technology, this technology is often used as the main way to create moldsfor casting.
