The majority of consumers buy paint and varnish materials on the advice of a sales assistant at the point of sale (48% of consumers), 22% buy paint and varnish materials on the advice of relatives, acquaintances or friends, 11% each make their choice based on information obtained from the Internet and on the recommendation of a builder or designer. Only 5% of respondents made their purchase thanks to the advertising they saw, and 3% – thanks to specialized TV programs.

When buying paint and varnish materials, consumers first of all pay attention to: quality of goods, price-quality ratio, brand name. And when choosing paint, they pay attention to its durability, environmental friendliness, color fastness, speed of drying, ease of application, good covering of surfaces.

Production of all types of paints and varnishes in 2011 increased slightly compared to 2010 and amounted to 212.9 thousand tons. Production of water-soluble paints and varnishes in 2011 amounted to 79.5 thousand tons, which is 0.3% less than in 2010, organosoluble paints and varnishes 81.3 thousand tons, which is 16.3% less than in the previous year, paints, varnishes and siccatives finished 52 thousand tons, which is 16.7% more than in 2010.

At the same time, the average price of imported products increased by 8.6%.

Imports of organically diluted paints and varnishes are on the contrary growing, and in the first quarter of 2013 increased by 10.3%. At the same time, about 40% of imported organic paints and varnishes are semi-finished alkyd varnish, which is imported to Ukraine from Russia and Belarus.
